A rather sad and quite violent Judge Dredd comic strip adventure. Karl Raider is a retired judge and former friend of Dredd’s. Raider laments the death of his former lover, having had to kill her himself when she got infected with radiation during the Apocalypse war. Increasing crime has driven Raider to vigilantism. He uses his skills to take down a mob boss, killing a number of the gangland bosses’ hoodlums, and chopping off the Mafia maestro’s hands. Judge Dredd learns that his old friend is responsible, and gives chase. Knowing that Raider is a gentleman towards women, he arranges for a female judge to go undercover and get close to him. He sends a girl who bears a striking resemblance to raider’s former lover. Dredd sets up a fake mugging so that Raider saves the girl from attack, and Raider takes her back to his place. He confides in her about his past, but knowing she is a judge (having gone through her bags in secret) he has unloaded her gun on her. Raider knocks the girl out and goes after the mob leader again. The mob leader is running a racket in which he will accept payment to smuggle known criminals to Mars, but then dump them in space through an airlock and keep the money. Dredd attacks the mob leader and discovers that the rocket used for the scam is actually booby trapped. He planned on blowing Raider up with it. He almost kills Dredd instead, first with the exploding rocket, and then with the knives he has inserted into the stumps where his hands used to be. Dredd kills him. When Raider meets with Dredd, he reminisces about how he once fired a better round of bullets at target practice during training. He tries again, but Dredd beats him, and kills him. For once, Dredd seems to regret having killed an opponent, but of course in his world, the law is everything. http://www.2000adonline.com/
