DON QUIXOTE IN CANDLEWICK GREEN
"There do be giants waging war from that there hill.
With my sharp sword, I’ll sweep in for the kill."
(Of magic mushrooms, he’s eaten his fill).
"Get out of my windmill, you bloody vandal!"
Said Windy Miller, brandishing a candle,
Until Quixote stuck his sword in, right to the handle.
"Good job you only hit that flour sack,"
Said Windy as he shot La Mancha in the back,
But on such armour, bullets barely made a crack.
Hugh, Pugh, Barney McGrew, Cuthbert, Dibble
And Grub, each of them mentally unstable,
(Except Pugh, who was just drunk and incapable)
Lay endless siege to poor Windy’s farm
Inflicting much grievous bodily harm
On each other, and burning down a barn.
To the rescue came brave Sancho Panza,
In a stolen tank, a German Panzer;
The final stand, and the final stanza!
Arthur Chappell.
