The FONT Science Fiction & Fantasy Society (Manchester)

FONT is the leading general purpose and free attendance Science Fiction/Fantasy/horror Society in Manchester. The name is an acronym for the Friends Of Neal Tringham, chosen as such for no other reason than we consider him a worthy chap for such an honour. Meetings are laid back, informal as informal can be, and great fun. Generally things start at about 8.30 PM, but a few fanatics among us FONTERs... er FONTists..... (whatever) do tend to get to the pub as early as 7.30 PM.

You want to know WHERE we meet? That would make it too easy Oh, alright then - We meet on the 2cd & 4th and occasional 5^th Thursdays every month at The Crown And Anchor Pub at 41 Hilton Street, off Dale Street, and Newton Street, near Piccadilly Railway Station. (There are other Crown and Anchor bars in Manchester, so do take care to get to the right one).

FONT charge no membership levies, so you just need your own beer money.

Books, (Old and new), Films, TV shows, Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror, comics, cutting edge computer/internet games, SF trading cards, toys, - You name it, some FONT member will share your passion for it. Many SF groups specialise in media SF only, or just talk about books. FONT covers the whole range of what SF/Fantasy has to offer. Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Babylon Five are particularly loved by most members of FONT.

When I was a newcomer to the group they made me feel very welcome. I haven't enjoyed such a healthy social life since my student grant ran out (about a fortnight into my studies), many moons ago.
